An Uncharacteristic public post
Because is it important.
As a person I have watched so many of my rights disappear.
As a woman I watch them disappear even faster.
I suppose this is only a matter of time before someone here in the buckle of the bible belt comes up with the million dollars to buy the same decision here.
And no, I won't put this behind a cut. It is too important.

South Dakota Passes Total Abortion Ban
http://www.alien-earth.org/news/item.php?keyid=702

South Dakota became the first U.S. state to pass a law banning abortion in virtually all cases, with the intention of forcing the Supreme Court to reconsider its 1973 decision legalizing the procedure.

The law, which would punish doctors who perform the operation with a five-year prison term and a $5,000 fine, awaits the signature of Republican Gov. Michael Rounds and people on both sides of the issue say he is unlikely to veto it.

"My understanding is we are the first state to truly defy Roe v. Wade," the 1973 high court ruling that granted a constitutional right to abortion, said Kate Looby of Planned Parenthood's South Dakota chapter.

State legislatures in Ohio, Indiana, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky also have introduced similar measures this year, but South Dakota's legislative calendar means its law is likely to be enacted first.

"We hope (Rounds) recognizes this for what it is: a political tool and not about the health and safety of the women of South Dakota," Looby said.

"If he chooses to sign it, we will be filing a lawsuit in short order to block it," she said after attending the afternoon debate at the state capital in Pierre.

Proponents have said the law was designed for just such a court challenge.

The timing is right, supporters say, given the recent appointments of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Samuel Alito to the high court. The two conservatives could pave the way to a decision overturning Roe v. Wade.

The high court said on Tuesday it will rule on whether the federal government can ban some abortion procedures, a case that could reveal whether the court reshaped by President George W. Bush will restrict abortion rights.

In 1992, the Supreme Court reaffirmed the right to abortion in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the last direct challenge to Roe v. Wade.

The South Dakota law concludes that life begins at conception based on medical advances over the past three decades.

Proposed amendments to the law to create exceptions to specifically protect the health of the mother, or in cases of rape or incest, were voted down. Also defeated was an amendment to put the proposal in the hands of voters.

The bill as written does make an exception if the fetus dies during a doctor's attempt to save the mother's life.

Planned Parenthood operates the sole clinic in South Dakota where roughly 800 abortions are performed each year by doctors from neighboring Minnesota, Looby said.

Two years ago, Rounds vetoed a similar bill, saying it would wipe out existing restrictions on abortion while it was fought in the courts. A rewritten bill lost narrowly in the state Senate.

Some legislators opposed to abortion rights questioned whether it was premature to challenge Roe v. Wade, and said litigation would prove expensive for the sparsely populated state. An anonymous donor has offered $1 million to the state to defray the costs of litigation.

Talk to most Christians and they won't tell you they think Bush is the world. However they will tell you "He stands for our beliefs."
When you do not have a chance to run again..you can pull all the shit you said you wouldn't do. Like cut the fuck out of Medicare and School Grant programs. Then you can start tampering with abortion. THEN ---wanna get really pissy..Ban abortion and then say we also have cut unwed mother welfare. Which they also did. So now.. You have no information on birth control. No way to fix the accident. And no one to pay for it. Then you have a bunch of women who don't want to adopt they want to have invitro infertilization. Welcome to 1930 with a twist.

With each passing day, it's becoming more and more apparent that we're living in some sort of bizarro Fascist State, the kind of place that Mussolini would be proud to call home and David Duke would think of as a swinging place to settle down with the genetically pure kids.

Jesus Christ on a fucking pogo stick, what the hell happened to America? What the hell happened to some semblance of the 21st century? Hey you fucking prehistoric douchebags, we're LIVING IN THE FUTURE. Just because your hokey superstitions tell you that you must impose your lameness on the rest of us doesn't make it ok. When are the cool kids gonna put down the dope and revolt against the cockroaches masquerading as humans that rule this planet? When will we begin to fulfill the promise of the 20th century, that we could make life wonderful for eveyrone here? And lastly, WHERE IN THE BLUE NAME OF FUCK ARE MY FLYING CARS AND MOVING SIDEWALKS???

If that made any sense to you, be afraid.

Add Mississipi to that list also, and they too have only one abortion clinic left and that one may soon dissapear as well.
The rest of the clinics are pro life and won't even tell the women where to go to get an abortion.

Let love triumph over violence, and let us strive ceaselessly for the day when every unborn child is protected in law, and welcomed in life.

When you wind up bent over the hood of a car in a parking deck with a handful of men you don't know passing you around and telling you how much you like it and walk out of it 14 and pregnant then you can talk to me.

Until then get the fuck out of my journal and peddle your tyranical politics somewhere else.

Note the Icon. It reads "Here, I'll help you to shut the fuck up" Learn it. Love it. Live it.

Distressing

Only God knows when a soul begins. Only God knows when a life really begins. It is most distressing the EGO that people like you have. It is totally against God to believe you are God and you know when things begin and end. No one knows but God.
Love- love is protecting what is allready here. A girl who's father rapes her, a girl who get's raped by a random sicko, and a girl who's life is in danger because the fetus is not positioned correctly.
Those people deserve love and protection also. Because of the way abortion bills are "bundled" that girl loses her right to live because someone or somthing else took her life? Then you play God again. You have now said somone does not have the right to live because you (as the Christian Front) have decided that there was a soul-a human being inside her..and that "person" was more important than the one who has been alive for years. Cake and eating it also.
Things you might think about in your spiritual life.
You can't dictate who's "life" is important. You can't change a law that forces tons of babies on the street, garbage cans, and death by coat hangers . You can't do this while you cut UNWED MOTHER welfare. You can't do this and then say..humm I think I will get invitro fertilization. Because you are so beyond God you can even make life in a petri dish. Starvig, poor, and diseased children because someone decided that they should have "life". You can't have the science and ban the science also. It is all or nothin. You use doctors-you use science-you use somthing I believe God gave you. Once you start banning what God gave you because you have decided that your definitions are more important than what God put on this Earth as the medical profeesion-you become an anti-Christ. There's the rub.
Millions of people speaking for God when they have no idea what God is.
//sorry it took me a few days
//was ill from treatment
//was searching my soul for the correct attack.
//don't like to attack-like people to get out of their spiritual ego of a head space and really think about what they are asking for

Hi

I read your e-mail with interest. I appreciate the fact that you kept the tone civil (many pro-choice women violently curse me when I express my opinion concerning abortion). I wish to respond to the arguments you make.

1. Only God knows when a soul begins.

I suppose this is true but the issue is not when a "soul" begins. The issue is when human life begins, and that's at conception. This is a statement of scientific fact, not theology.

2. Only God knows when a life really begins.

This is not true. Humans are capable of knowing and grasping many things. For example, scientists have figured out the distance between the earth and the moon. They also have figured out that life begins when sperm fertilizes an egg.

3. It is totally against God to believe you are God and you know when things begin and end.

See no. 2 above with regard to knowing things. It is not playing God to allow human life God has created to live. It is playing God to kill that life without just cause. If you believe that there is doubt about when human life begins, isn't it best to play it safe and not kill it? (Of course this question demonstrates the absurdity of your position -- How can you kill something that is not alive? You can't. A very accompolished biologist once observed that only things that live can be killed.)

4. I agree that a woman who has been raped needs love. However, love does not require killing her child. Both rape and abortion are acts of violence. One act of violence does not justify another act of violence against an innocent child. Moreover, the experience of many women is that the abortion of an innocent child conceived in rape is a second act of violence that only serves to compound the trauma of the rape. Think of the heroism of a woman who can overcome the hatred that rape involves and love the child who is conceived in the act of rape. Such women exist. (In another post, I will provide the testimony of Jennifer Speltz, who was conceived by rape.)

5. The situations where a mother loses her life due to a pregnancy are fortunately quite rare and as such cannot remotely begin to justify the 1 million plus abortions that American women undergo ever year. I agree though that this rare situation poses a difficult moral dilemma. However, not even "total ban" legislation proposes outlawing abortion when the mother's life is threatened.

6. You can't have a law that forces "tons" of babies into the garbage, etc.

I agree that men and women must take responsibility for the lives they create when they have sexual relations. I disagree that killing the child they create is ever a responsible thing to do.

7. You refer to "death by coat hangers."

This is what is known as "an urban legend" (to put it politely) or "a big lie" (to put it bluntly). It is now well established that by the 1960s deaths due to botched abortions was very rare. Indeed, in absolute numbers there are more maternal deaths on an annual basis due to botched abortions since legalization then there were before legalization (in part because there are so many more abortions).

8. I agree that in vitro fertilization is wrong.

9. Forcing life on starving, poor and diseased children.

This is to me a shocking statement that reveals a barren heart. I happen to know, and love, many people who were born into extreme poverty (including some who, yes, have known hunger), and some severly diseased people. Why should we not love the the poor and the disabled? I have you ever asked a poor person if he is better off dead? Is this a question you put to people in nursing homes and hospitals?

The late Cardinal O'Connor once said something along these lines: "I may be disabled, but I am alive! I may be poor, but I am alive! I may be unwanted by my parents, but I'm alive! But with abortion there is no hope, because a person is aborted in not alive."

Open up your heart! Love all life, no matter how poor or sick! There is love, joy and life in the pro-life movement. You may not be able to understand this, but the basis of the entire pro-life movement is love. If you read only one pro-life book, please read Pope John Paul II's encyclical letter "The Gospel of Life." I would gladly buy it for you if you would read it.

God also gave us abortion. God knows when it is medically and mentally neccessary. If God gave us Science he gave us abortion, the bomb, and free will.

If this is something that you really feel justified in then why not post in your own journal instead of just trolling other journals to peddle your rhetoric?Do you not have the srength of your convictions to make your own stand? You must simply seek out others at whom to throw stones?

A rebuttle- the notion of death by botched abortion is not an Urban Legend. (For your reference: urban legend
n.
An apocryphal story involving incidents of the recent past, often including elements of humor and horror, that spreads quickly and is popularly believed to be true.)
Women did die from bad surgeries. And the fact that it was an illegal surgery means that on occasions women did die from associated complications that that fact was covered to hide the illegal activity. I chlegne you to support your claim with reference to a legitimate news source and not a place of jaded ani-abortion propaganda. For example:
"The Risk of Childbearing Re-Evaluated", in the American Journal of Public Health,, 1981, 71:712-716. This article deals, not just with deaths from abortion, but with all maternal deaths. Indeed, the bulk of the article deals with deaths related to live birth. Nevertheless, they do mention abortion-related deaths: "Intensive nationwide surveillance of abortion-related deaths ... showed that only 52 percent of abortion-related deaths were so reported by state vital records ..."

I really don't think you can call the American Journal of Public Health a source that is in any way slanted pro-choice or otherwise.

And my friend is not saying that you should not love the sick or impoverished. She is stating that it is cruel and irresponsible to bring a child into an existance that will be loveless and plagued with starvation, poverty, illness, anger, etc.

Below is the testimony of Jennifer Speltz. Consider what a hero her mother is, and whether the noble thing her mother did was not the best response to being raped.

Testimony of Jennifer Speltz
I first began to recognize that I had a story to tell when I was attending a public Junior High school in Forest Lake, MN. Quite often the abortion topic would come up with friends and on occasion comments were thrown out by abortion-minded teachers. I would always cringe a little when they would say "I don?t like abortion, I think it is wrong . . . except in cases of rape and incest," or "we really have to keep abortion legal for cases of rape and incest."
My mom had slowly been revealing the circumstances of my conception to me over the years and by the time I was 13, I understood and had come to grips with the reality that my father was, essentially, a rapist. Though he was 18, as was my mother, at the time of my conception, and most likely had acted out of a dare by his friends, he had violated my mother against her will.
When my mom found out she was pregnant with me, the only advice she was given was to discard the "products of conception." She explains, better than anyone, how she was never offered support to keep me, though this is where her heart was leading her. Needless to say, I am eternally grateful that she heeded that still, small voice in her heart which told her that the life growing within had a purpose and did not merit death.
When the topic came up, throughout Junior High and High School, I would usually first try to appeal to reason saying: "Now, why don?t you like abortion? What is wrong with it?" When they would answer "Because, it?s a life" some would immediately recognize the double standard and relent. Most of the time, however, even when faced with the evident, they would still persist with emotional arguments: "You just can?t make a woman go through with a pregnancy like that." Though it is an unjust and heart wrenching scenario to consider, it must be dealt with, and so I would tell them our story. Only once in High School did a person who heard this story turn away cold-faced. Every other person who was faced with "a face" allowed their hearts to melt at the truth of matter - God has a plan for everyone!
As my 27th birthday approaches, I am ever discovering God?s magnificent plan, not only for my life, but for every life that he calls into existence. It is crucial that every citizen realize that a person?s dignity is not founded in whether or not one is wanted, as abortion peddlers and legislators would like them to believe. A person?s dignity is founded in the reality that persons are created in the image and likeness of God. The circumstances of my conception, yours, or anyone?s does not determine quality of life.
Young people across the nation and the world are coming to recognize the double-standards of abortion rhetoric and that all of the promises of the, so called, "sexual revolution" are coming up empty. Young people are renewing the pro-life movement with an unmatched determination to herald in a new "Culture of Life." By the grace of God my mom and I were spared of the life-long, direct agony that abortion reaps. On the other hand, when you consider Planned Parenthood?s grisly statistic that 40% of all women in the U.S. will have an abortion by the age of 40 (mothers, daughters, aunts, grandmothers, granddaughters, cousins, wives) every American citizen has been touched by the grief of abortion directly or indirectly, consciously or unconsciously. Therefore, every one of us has an obligation to stand up! I am overjoyed to be apart of the generation that WILL turn the cultural tide so that following generations will be spared of this unjust suffering.

who had a back alley abortion before she was married and had me. She almost died. No anesthetic...
That is cruel and unhumane. To BELIEVE FOR ONE SECOND that people will not find a way to have an abortion is UNREALISTIC, ADOLESCENT, and TRUTHFULLY BLINDE.
See now you have hit the nerve. I think it's AMAZING how when a person points out that God made science so therefore he gave us the ability to think for ourselves..the ABILITY to give abortions Pro-Lifers go nuts an repeat themselves..or give you the standard Pope speech.
I feel sorry for you. You are blinde to God hiding behind what a PERSON (the POPE) says is right or wrong. The Pope is not closer to God than any of us..
Really truthfully sad.

Consider a broader vision of social justice: where there is support for pregnant women; where fathers take responsibility for their children; and where there is love for the severely disabled, before and after birth.

End lethal violence in the family! Reverse Roe v. Wade!
