Oh California....
*hangs head in shame*

Every argument I have ever heard against same sex marriage has been based on biblical/Christian beliefs. It hasn't been based on anything political, financial, medical, environmental...you know, the things that government is supposed to be concerned with. If I remember correctly there was some kind of major country ratified movement that declared the FUCKING SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!!!

I'm so...disgusted.
Really, that is the word. Disgusted.

I am all for people having their own opinions.
So you are entitled to marry who you want to marry.
But why do you think you have the right to tell others who they can or can't marry?!?

Somewhere in the back of my head is a long eloquent speech so support my views. But right now I am sad and disgusted and the words just won't come.

If a church or other private institution chooses not to perform a certain type of ceremony that is their choice. They are a private business. As a private business they are entitled to exercise their opinions in that way.
But it should not be a government issue of any kind. There should not be any type of governmentally supported agency that should refuse this service.

i just....

ARRGGHHHHH!!!!
It is so infuriating.
It is so disgusting.
It is so narrow-minded.
And it is so NONE OF ANYONE ELSE'S FUCKING BUSINESS!!!!

Justice Carlos R Moreno- I salute you for trying to do the right thing. I respect you for trying to stand up for the rights of individuals and the ideal on which this country was founded.

Though I am pleased that the 18,000 marriages performed in the interim survive, I'm still very disappointed with California.

Well actually as we where founded on the separation of Church and State, nowhere in the Constitution is there contingencies or statements that do in fact separate Church and State. Sad as it is

I didn't mean that specifically but....

Um- have you read the first amendment?
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Although he phrase itself first came from letters by Thomas Jefferson in regards to the amendment but it is also used...no QUOTED in several rulings of the supreme court.

I'm just against marriage ;)

But, I think people should be allowed to make their own mistakes; it shouldn't make any difference how they're shaped below the waist.

There was a time when you had to be sort of patient with people on gay marriage, but they've had time now. The Bible and "tradition" are not legal precedents.

But the opponents can see the writing on the wall at this point. It's not QUITE the same, but I often compare it to the state of slavery in 1861. It was still legal, and the president didn't claim to be against it, but no one really believed him. The arguments had been heard, and, even though the voters hadn't all come around on it, everyone knew it was really just a matter of time. It would have been a much longer time if not for the war, but still. Once the argument is lost, it's a matter of time. It's the same now. The change is coming somewhat slowly, the opponents make a lot of noise, and Obama says he's for civil unions vs marriage, but not one of his opponents exactly believes him.
