Run away with me.
Yes, I mean it.
I have walked my life to the end of the world and I am standing at the precipice. I look down into the bottomless caverns below and they are the only mystery left to me.

If I jump will the air currents lift me like a phoenix from the ashes of the world?
Will I fall weightless like Alice into the Rabbit's Hole?
Will I fall with such velocity as to be consumed by the depths should I ever reach bottom?
If I reach my hand to you will you jump with me?

I know we have these things in common as we are looking off the edge.
I know we share these desires as we climbed over the rail long ago, ignoring the sign that told us caution.
I know you think of jumping as I can see you leaning into the abyss as well.
If you reach your hand to me will I jump with you?

Is it fear? Is is initiative? Are there unseen ropes that bind us to things on the more solid ground behind us?
If we jumped would these ropes hold us safely or would the hang us like a noose?
could we free each other from the binds if we needed to?
Could our combined weight and inertia drag the things that hold the ropes over the edge?
If we took each others hand, could we jump?

Hrm, this poem could also be thought of as a leap of faith, or a plunge into the unknown... or perhaps taking someone down with you.

in any cases, I'd like to think of it as a leap of faith.

Um. Where was I going with that?

Oh yeah. Have you seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon? If not, you should see it... The poem kinda reminded me of that.

I think when I wrote the piece I meant for her to be in the ide of a leap of faith or a plunge into the unknown. I think the "taking someone down with you' feel comes from the fact that I am the eternal pessimist and everyting I do is tainted with the idea of failure.

Thank you for the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon reference. I LOVED that movie. It was absolutely beautiful. Then again, any thing with Chow Yun Fat or Michelle Yeoh will get a happy thumbs up from me. :-)
