I clearly need a distraction.
So- POLL TIME!!!
I want to know your thoughts of the only competition that really matters. Forget the olympics, screw those professional sporting events.. LET'S TALK MOVIES!!!
I want to know your thoughts for the Oscars.
The 'top categories' are in the poll. But, if you have thoughts about the other categories I want to hear them too. Feel free to post in the comments. (I would have covered everything but I got tired of building the poll...sorry.)

Now, this poll is who you think WILL win. We all know that it isn't necessarily who you think SHOULD win. But, if you want to share you you think should win again- to the comments!!

Oh yeah, this will be one of my rare public posts so if you know other people who are movie buffs but aren't on my f-list send them this way. And if you aren't on LJ but want to share your thoughts I am going to open up the comments for 'anonymous' posting as well. But, please, put your name on it. Why not be proud of your predictions. :-)

[Poll #1531810]

So I made a run to UPS today to pick up a package.
It seems that someone did a little Valentine's Day/ Chinese New Year shopping and sent me a gift of some savory beverage...

The company included the receipt but no name.

So- if you want to speak up- Please do.
If you don't- that's fine too.
In either case: THANK YOU!!

This week has been exhausting on many levels. This gift was a wonderful surprise and a delightful treat to help lull me gently into my weekend.
I can't wait to try all of them.

Ok- You all know that The Signal Opens on The 22nd.
Just a few short days away.
I know you all want to get all of your friends to see the film.
But, to make it just a little sweeter-
I will send a prize- I don't know what yet but it will be related to the film and it will be uber cool- to the person who sends me proof of getting the largest group to see the film on opening night.
Send me a picture (that will let me get a clear headcount) at the theater holding up your ticket stubs, scan the tickets and email it to me- whatever.
Yes, I know there is a great chance of cheating at this but I am going to be trusting.

So, get everyone you know and go see THE SIGNAL on the 22nd!!

As many of you know, a little movie was made in Atlanta in Jan 2006. In 5 days, it broadcasts in over 200 theaters nationwide. The reviews are coming in great. Fan support has been awesome. It's a dream come true.

But people HAVE to go and see it on opening weekend!! Opening weekend means everything!!

Spread the word! Tell your friends, your family, your neighbors, co-workers, the pizza man, the preacher, your landlord, that chick with hair, your uncle's mistress, the little league baseball team, the resident bum, the pot smoking hippy, no arms girl, captain america and please, if anyone knows him personally, let Barak Obama know, that this movie will kick your fucking ass!

February 22nd! Nationwide.

Some of my dear friends in Atlanta made a brilliant film and I AM IN IT!! It is a brief appearance but it is my first big screen national release.
The film went to Sundance and became an overnight darling. Magnolia films bought it and they are giving it a HUGE national release.

You all know that opening night numbers are VERY important. Please- PLEASE- find the theater in your area showing it and GO SEE IT OPENING NIGHT!!
This is very very important to me.
And it is a great film. The pre-screening reviews are amazing.

Here in Chicago let's invade the City North 14. They don't have times yet but I am thinking a 7:30/ 8:00 ish showing.
And hey- the theater has parking!!

Not in Chicago? Check it out- here is a list of the theaters that will be opening the movie. Please find your nearest city and go see The Signal.

Oh yeah, the soundtrack gets released on the 19th. Ben Lovett is really incredible. I can't give him enough props for his talent. Buy the soundtrack and love it.

If you love me- or even just like me a little please go see the movie and cheer loudly for me as I am the first person on the screen and then stay to love the rest of the film.

And if you hate me, go see it so you can watch as I get beaten to death and then love the brilliance of the rest of the movie. ;-)

So, here it is now.
Post 2,500.
I lie in my bed with four wonderful kitties and my new good friend- 4:00a.m.
I look at this little milestone and I think about how much I have been through, changed, experienced in these last 2,500 posts.
So much life lived. Loves found and lost. Lights lit, extinguished and lit again.
This has been a very powerful tool for me from time to time.
It has been my companion, my friend, my therapy, my entertainment, my connection.
I have found so many wonderful people through this. People that are important to my life, mind and heart that would never be here if it weren't for this silly little journal.
What started as a joke and a dare has become a very important piece of how I navigate life.

2,500 posts.
This, of course, doesn't count posts in communities and things I deleted.
Just things here.

My health has taken turns which force me to be more of a homebody than I am normally.
The internet and this journal have become even more important to my well-being and contact with the outside world.

But none of it would mean anything...be anything if it weren't for my readers.
So, in a rare act I make this a public post.
I want to hank you all for being here.
I want to thank you for the time with your eyeballs and your minds.
I want to thank you for your input and thoughts.
I want to thank you for your advice, jokes, sympathy, empathy, memes, polls, quizzes, virtual hugs, kicks in the ass and so so much more.
Thank you for being here with me.
Lying in this bed with my four wonderful kitties and my new good friend 4:00 a.m.

In a rare public post I bring you all a contest that I really wish I could enter...alas-

This is a contest with The Style Network and Niecy Nash. It is the search for The Messiest Home in America. They ran this last year and only redid one room. This year they are doing the whole house. (And yes, I am hating it that I can’t enter.) It’s super easy to enter. You make a video of your home and family that is 1-5 min. Mail it or upload it along with sending in the entry form. Wahllah!

Here is the video that was submitted by last year’s winner.

This video was submitted as part of the Clean House®: Search for the Messiest Home™ Competition

If that isn’t working you can see it linked here.

Last year there were only 50 entries. My last update (just before Christmas) was that there were only about 5 entries so far for this year so you stand a REALLY GOOD chance of winning.

Anyway, check out some of the videos and then enter on your own.
Happy Holiday every one.
Oh, and if anyone wins I want to move in with you after it is done. ;-)

Ever had one of those times where you woke from sleep for no good reason and were simply Wide Awake?
Ever had one of those moments combined with the need to turn on lights...even when there is no good reason why you should be awake...even when you really should try to go back to sleep?

Yeah.

So what's going on out there.
Who woke me? What do you need?

I don't make public posts very often. When I do it is because it is just do fluffy that I don't care if the world sees it.
Or, like this post it is because I think it is important enough tat EVERYONE should see it...

A lot has been said about how to prevent rape.

Women should
learn self-defense. Women should lock themselves in their houses after
dark. Women shouldn't have long hair and women shouldn't wear short
skirts. Women shouldn't leave drinks unattended. Fuck, they shouldn't
dare to get drunk at all.

Instead of that bullshit, how about:

if a woman is drunk, don't rape her.
if a woman is walking alone at night, don't rape her.
if a women is drugged and unconscious, don't rape her.
if a woman is wearing a short skirt, don't rape her.
if a woman is jogging in a park at 5 am, don't rape her.
if a woman looks like your ex-girlfriend you're still hung up on, don't rape her.
if a woman is asleep in her bed, don't rape her.
if a woman is asleep in your bed, don't rape her.
if a woman is doing her laundry, don't rape her.
if a woman is in a coma, don't rape her.
if a woman changes her mind in the middle of or about a particular activity, don't rape her.
if a woman has repeatedly refused a certain activity, don't rape her.

if a woman is not yet a woman, but a child, don't rape her.
if your girlfriend or wife is not in the mood, don't rape her.
if your step-daughter is watching tv, don't rape her.
if you break into a house and find a woman there, don't rape her.
if your friend thinks it's okay to rape someone, tell him it's not, and that he's not your friend.

if your "friend" tells you he raped someone, report him to the police.
if
your frat-brother or another guy at the party tells you there's an
unconscious woman upstairs and it's your turn, don't rape her, call the
police and tell the guy he's a rapist.

tell your sons, god-sons, nephews, grandsons, sons of friends it's not okay to rape someone.

don't tell your women friends how to be safe and avoid rape.
don't imply that she could have avoided it if she'd only done/not done x.
don't imply that it's in any way her fault.
don't let silence imply agreement when someone tells you he "got some" with the drunk girl.
don't
perpetuate a culture that tells you that you have no control over or
responsibility for your actions. You can, too, help yourself.

If you agree, re-post it. It's that important.
